  • CLARKSON versus union, March 6, 2009

Here are a few comments from Bob Alhfeld's pre-game conversation with Coach George Roll.

Paul Karpowich will be in goal toknight. We would like to be playing at home, but that wasn't meant to be. George is happy with the way Clarkson played last Saturday...Clarkson's effort was there. Union was very competitive and physical. Our guys are ready for this series this weekend.

We need to get more rebounds and score; we are different team than we were in the fall.

KNOW NO LIMITS, CLARKSON GOLDEN KNIGHTS!

Period 1 is underway, and Shea Guthrie wins the faceoff.

Union takes a quick shot...but misses.

Brandon DeFazio hits a Union player hard.

Nick Tremblay is now playing on a line with Brandon DeFazio and Lauri Tuohimma, while Scott Freeman is playing on a line with Julien Cayer.

A shot went to the back of the neting, the horn sounds and Union celebrates. A huge question mark. Gary and Bob say the puck did not go into the net. The goal judge turned the light on, and the referees are talking with him.

BOB AND GARY ARE RIGHT.....NO UNION GOAL.

Bryan Rufenach takes the puck, and Union took it back.

Nick Tremblay shoots on goal for Clarkson's first shot on net. Tom Pizzo carries the puck against the line.

Five minutes have passed with no score.

Phil Paquet takes a hard shot. Chris D'Alvise tips the puck, and it went just over the goal....a good try for Chris.

Union now has possession, but Clarkson regains control briefly.

A Union player hits Brandon DeFazio from behind, and a dirty dutchmen goes to the penalty box.

Chris D'Alvise takes the puck over the line. Bryan Rufenach has the puck now. Adam Bellows keeps the puck inside the blue line, but soon a Union player drives it down the ice.

A Union player shoots off the Clarkson post, and the power play ends.

Adam Bellows passes the puck to Chris D'Alvise, but Union gains possession of the puck.

SCOTT FREEMAN SCORES CLARKSON'S FIRST GOAL ON A BREAKAWAY....AN UNASSISTED GOAL.

Didn't Bob and George say in the pre-game show that Scott Freeman was a play maker and not a goal scorer?

As Union shoots the puck, it hits Paul Karpowich in the shoulder and the puck bounced over Paul's shoulder and into the net. What misfortune for Clarkson, who tried to discuss interference with referee with John Murphy.

The score is now tied at one each....bummer.

Nick Tremblay is knocked down by a dutchman.....no call again.

                  Paul Karpowich makes another save.

Matt Beca and Chris D'Alvise take the puck over the line, but Union brings it right back.

Union just scored another goal....hard work out in front of Paul Karpowich. The Knights could not clear the puck away.

                  Score: union....2 CLARKSON....1

Chip MacDonald calls a penalty on Clarkson, and Union goes on the power play.

Chris D'Alvise shoots the puck down the ice. Union regains possession and continues to put pressure on Clarkson.

Clarkson can't seem to clear the puck out of its zone.

Finally, Lauri Tuohimma shoots the puck down the ice.

Mark Borowiecki was tripped....and of course, no call.

Union has a lot of momentum as Period 1 ends with Union leading 2 ~ 1.

Union really limited Clarkson's scoring chances....the Golden Knights only had four shots on goal in Period 1.

Union had twelve shots on goal....that is quite a difference.

As Gary said, the Golden Knights have forty minutes left to turn things around....let's hope they can do that.

CHRIS D'ALVISE SCORES CLARKSON'S SECOND GOAL, WITH A SHOT JUST UNDER THE CROSSBAR. MATT BECA AND PHIL PAQUET GET THE ASSISTS.

                        Score is tied at 2

Bryan Rufenach stopped the puck in front of Paul Karpowich, who had no chance to make a save, but Union just put the puck in the net, for its third goal...darn it.

Chris D'Alvise nearly scored on a two-on-one with Matt Beca, but they couldn't score.

Bryan Rufenach was hit hard and being looked at, but he has now returned to the ice and appears to be okay.

Phil Paquet seems to be in some trouble on the bench...he appears to be hurt.

The score is tied at 3 each.

Julien Cayer made a nice shot on goal. Phil Pauqet is standing at the bench. Let's hope Phil will be okay.

Shea Guthrie drives at the goal, and Matt Beca is hit against the wall....naturally no call.

Lauri Tuohimma takes a shot on goal on a pass from Nick Tremblay and Brandon DeFazio.
